The service has the potential to deliver speeds of up to 1 Gbps. The DoT has granted telecom operators the green light to conduct 5G trials in India. The trials will last for at least six months, including two months for procurement and installation.

At the moment, the service is available in some areas in Gurugram, including DLF Cyber Hub, DLF Phase 2, Rajiv Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Atlas Chowk, and Huda City Center. The company will roll out the 5G service in phases, with the first phase covering the DLF Cyber Hub.

To make the 5G network a reality, Airtel has already conducted a successful trial in Bengaluru.
The network tested two industrial use cases in a Bosch facility, where it managed thousands of connected devices and minimized downtime. Airtel's 5G network is able to scale-up rapidly and deliver multi-GBPS throughput.

While India's 5G rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Airtel is also focusing on the rollout of the network across the country by the end of 2024.

The company hopes to launch 5G in more than five thousand towns, including Gurugram, as well as other metropolitan areas, to supplement the existing system. The company has also bid for 5G spectrum worth Rs 45,000 crore, which is 20 percent higher than the base case. Airtel plans to use low 1800MHz and 2100MHz airwaves, which are both useful for penetrating deep indoors and covering large areas.
